That’s all very well, but what if right now you have no idea what your bliss is? As kids, knowing what we want and don’t want is easy. We want ice cream. We don’t want Brussel sprouts. As we grow up, it becomes complicated. The wants of others get factored in and we start to imagine the consequences of our choices. Then, instead of letting what we value most guide our choices, we start living by ‘shoulds.’ In time, we can lose touch with the things that bring us bliss. To connect with core desires and let them guide decisions, we have to dig beneath layers of limiting - often unconscious - beliefs. Lets do it.

Take out a notebook and without
stopping to analyze or think too much,
complete the following sentences:

· If I didn’t have to be responsible I would…
· If I had the time I would…
· If money were no obstacle I would…
· If my age were not an issue I would…
· If I had the talent I would…
· If my family/husband were supportive I would…
· If miracles could happen I would…

Read over what you’ve written. What ‘pearls’ did you discover? These are things you’d really love to do. Treat them as signposts to guide you on your authentic path. Take them seriously. Open yourself to the possibility of actually doing one or two in whatever way you can. Write down a small step you can take to help turn one pearl into reality, then act on it. For instance, if you dream of going scuba diving in the Red Sea, the first step might be to find a scuba class and get certified. No matter how crazy or impractical it may seem, if that’s where your heart lies, go for it.
